One Simple Mission
This program began in 2008 with one simple mission: to provide brand-new winter coats to impoverished children living in the five-county Philadelphia area.
The Need
Nearly 40 percent of households in the five-county Philadelphia area struggle to make ends meet. According to the United Way, the members of 223,000 area households live below the Federal poverty level and 418,000 are Asset Limited Income Constrained and Employed (ALICE). Most of these households get by without daily essentials like a warm winter coat.

Impact
Back in 2008, we challenged local new car dealerships to pledge a new winter coat every time a car was sold in September. Their response was heartwarming and the giving hasn’t stopped since. To date, we have distributed more than 700,000 new coats to area kids in need!

Goals
Besides relieving a small financial burden for parents or caregivers, the gift of a NEW coat warms the body and soul of children in need. It can supercharge their self-esteem and helps them arrive at school warm and ready to learn. The goal of our giving is to remind them that they are important and their community is there for them.
